Course Outline

Music Technology plays a key role in music across the world. This qualification will enable you to explore your musicality and create original materials using technology. This course is suitable for students who do not play a traditional instrument.

Music Technology, like other forms of technology, advances rapidly and you will learn about recent developments in the field and develop a wide range of skills through an emphasis on practical work including:

  • sequence MIDI
  • sequence audio
  • record live instruments
  • produce CDs
  • compose using music technology

This course offers you opportunities to build your understanding of the technical processes and principles that underpin effective use of Music Technology, and to comment on it in writing.

Entry Requirements

Six GCSEs at grade C or above. The Music team will usually want to hold a separate interview with interested students.

Assessment

35% examination, 65% coursework.

Progression

There are many important opportunities in higher education, and many career possibilities for those proficient in handling music technology.

A-level Music Technology is widely accepted by universities because it provides valuable experience and preparation for students wishing to study this subject at degree level. Music technology careers could include work as a sound engineer, record producer or teacher.
