A Level Fine Art
The Fine Art course requires students to work independently and develop ideas based on their personal interests. In year 12, students are introduced to a range of materials, techniques and processes, which they are expected to develop independently based on primary and secondary research. Students should use gallery and museum visits to inform their art practice.
If students are taking the AS qualification, they will begin working on an Externally Set Task in January of year 12. This is a project that involves contextual research, development of ideas through experimentation and refinement, leading to a final piece created under exam conditions.
Those who choose to work through to the full A level will begin their Personal Investigation at the end of year 12. This is a self-initiated project, developing ideas that are personal to the student. This includes practical work, a final piece and written element. Students will then begin their Externally Set Assignment in January of year 13. This follows the same structure as the AS Assignment, but has a longer ‘exam’ time and demands higher levels of skill, development and contextual understanding.
These IC6 schools will offer this qualification in September 2019:
Central Foundation Boys’ School (AQA)
City of London Academy Highbury Grove (OCR)
City of London Academy Islington (EDEXCEL) – the specification can be read here
